Kentucky Dog Derby

Saturday, May 4
12pm-2pm
Fiedler Field on the Esplanade

Celebrate the Kentucky Derby in style with your pooch at the Esplanade!

The Kentucky Dog Derby is a 1/2-mile parade around the Fiedler Field to benefit the park, highlighting it as a resource for dog owners while celebrating the arrival of spring.

We encourage both you and your dog to wear your Derby finest (bow ties, hats, sundresses, florals, and more) – there will be prizes for both best-dressed pup and for human/dog duet!

In addition to the parade, there will be a variety of games, demos, and giveaways for attendees to enjoy, as well as goody bags for all attendees.

All dogs must be registered to be eligible to receive a goody bag and prizes. Spectators are welcome!

The purpose of the Kentucky Dog Derby is to promote the Esplanade as a resource for dog owners. The newly restored Lotta Fountain, just west of the Esplanade Playspace, is one example of a dog-friendly amenity in the Park. The Lotta Fountain offers a fillable water bowl for dogs.

Formerly known as the Canine Promenade, we hope you’ll join us for this new spin-off!
