Children in the Park (ChiP)
Children in the Park (ChiP) is a program aimed at providing an engaging day outside for Boston area youth to experience the wonders of outdoor play and exploration. The Esplanade Association (EA) partners with Associated Grant Makers’ Summer Fund to provide access to one of the city’s most beautiful resources for children ages 5 to 17 attending one of the dozens of day camps in and around the city.
EA introduced ChiP as a means to support the physical well-being of children and to introduce more Boston youth to the joys of the Esplanade. EA coordinates the scheduling, welcomes and orients campers and counselors to the Park, introduces, teaches and facilitates games, and supplies play equipment. More than 7,000 children have participated in ChiP since 2009. New in 2019, the Esplanade partnered with the Life is Good Playmakers to create meaningful and exciting programming for ChiP campers.
Programs and Activities include, but are not limited to:
• Free play and organized activities at the Teddy Ebersol’s Red Sox Fields
• Scavenger hunts
• Nature play and learning
• Lunch on the river banks
Thank you to Philanthropy MA’s Summer Fund, Life is Good Playmakers, and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) for supporting our 2019 Children in the Park program.
