Group Volunteer Days at the Esplanade

Criteo

Bring your team to volunteer at the Esplanade and be a part of our award-winning volunteer program!

Volunteering on the Esplanade is a great way to build team camaraderie while participating in a visible philanthropic effort to keep Boston’s iconic riverside beautiful! Volunteers report a sense of pride caring for a public space that they are likely to return to with friends and family.

If you are interested in scheduling a volunteer day for your group, please check out our availability and complete our request form. Please note that dates fill up quickly. We encourage interested groups to schedule their volunteer day as soon as possible. For any inquiries, please email Molly Ryan at volunteers@esplanade.org, and read our Frequently Asked Questions

Logistics

Our team hosts volunteer groups every Tuesday and Friday from 9:30am – 12pm starting on Tuesday, April 23 and ending on Friday, Nov 15. We do our best to accommodate groups interested in participating in a volunteer event outside of our Tuesday and Friday schedule. However, please note that given the limited availability of our team we cannot accommodate every request.

Volunteer activities and the specific location of the event within the Esplanade are based on the park’s needs, season, and weather conditions and are determined by our horticulture team a week before the event. Volunteer activities may include, and not limited to, trash and litter removal, painting benches, mural painting, mulching, raking, and planting. We ask that each group designate one or more team leaders who will be present for the event and will assist with coordination.

Your Team’s Impact

Volunteers are critical to helping keep the park beautiful, clean, and safe for the estimated 4 million people who visit the Esplanade each year.

In 2023 alone, over 1,100 volunteers removed the equivalent of 1,400 trash bags, planted over 2,200 bulbs, painted 44 park benches and repainted Patterned Behavior – the largest mural in the park – created by Siliva López Chavez.

In addition, your team’s tax-deductible donation contributes directly to our efforts of enhancing & revitalizing the Charles River Esplanade, sustaining its green space and building community in the park. Our suggested donations are found below and are based on the group size. Community groups and small non-profits, please inquire about our suggested donations.

Every year, we aim to host youth volunteer groups at no cost to provide an enriching stewardship experience. Due to our no cost policy, we can only host a limited number of youth volunteer groups per year. If interested, your group can make an additional donation of $500 to support a youth volunteer program in the park.
